Thank you for your interest in the Newton Demonstration. Before you begin we wanted to provide you with some helpful hints in running the demo.
This demo was developed to run on virtually any color Macintosh (including color PowerBooks). Nevertheless, if you are having problems running the Newton demo please check the following items:
1) Do You have enough memory or RAM available?
The demo requires only 1 megabyte of RAM (1,024 k), if you have any applications running simultaneously they might limit the amount of memory necessary to run the demo. You may need to make sure all other applications have been quit, and if you're still not sure, restart your Mac.
2) Do you have a color Macintosh?
This demo was created to run on a minimumly configured Macintosh, yet it does require a color or gray scale monitor with at least 16 colors or grays.
3) Did you launch the correct file?
To run the demo you only need to double click the file "Complete Newton Demo". There are two other files in the Newton Demo folder which contain supporting information for the demo — these files do not need to be opened; however, they do need to be in the same folder as the Complete Newton Demo to run successfully.
4) Is the screen getting cropped off at the bottom?
The demo was designed to run in a standard window size of 640 x 480 pixels. This accomodates most Mac and VGA displays from a 12" monitor and up. Unfortunately, Classics and PowerBooks (except for the 180c and Duo 270c) have smaller displays which results in cropping off approximately 5% of the screen at the bottom. At this time there is no fix for this problem and it is not recommended that you try running the demo on the Classics or PowerBooks.
